Child Rights

Through our project monitoring and policy advocacy, BIC pushes for strengthening Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) to better identify and address harm to children, with a specific focus on preventing child sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEA/H).

Priorities

BIC calls on MDBs to prevent and respond to child SEA/H in their operations. MDBs should also engage with children and youth, and their organizations, to influence the design and implementation of projects that will affect them.

90 million

About 90 million children alive today have experienced sexual violence.

Risk

Due to labor influx, MDB-funded projects are often at high risk for child SEA/H.

Safeguards

MDBs recognize SEA/H and gender-based violence (GBV) as inherent risks to development. Prevention and response to SEA/H and GBV are often found in the community health and safety standard of MBD safeguard policies.
