The objective of the Rwanda Stunting Prevention and Reduction Project is to contribute to the reduction in the stunting rate among children under five years of age (with a focus on children under two). The project will support the government to adopt and implement a new national strategy to improve the visibility of stunting in Rwanda, and to deliver harmonized behavior change messages across various platforms.
Project components include:
1. Prevention of stunting at community and household levels. This component will support the government to improve understanding of stunting in Rwanda, and deliver harmonized behavior change messages at all levels and across several key sectors.
2. High-impact Health and Nutrition Services. It will address key gaps in service delivery and aims to improve utilization and coverage of an enhanced package of high-impact nutrition and health interventions.
BIC, along with our partner Rwanda NGOs Forum on HIV/AIDS and Health Promotion (RNGOF on HIV/AIDS & HP) in Rwanda, are concerned about the participation of civil society in the Global Financing Facility (GFF) Multi-Stakeholder Country Platform and the ability of marginalized groups to access project benefits. We are at the early stages of monitoring the project and seek to answer the following questions:
1. Why is the level of participation of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the GFF Multi-Stakeholder Country Platform concerningly low?
2. Do marginalized groups have access to quality health and nutrition services offered by the project?
The World Bank is financing $US 25 million of the project and the GFF is providing US $10 million.
