How can the World Bank improve the design and implementation of its new Climate Change Action Plan?

The new World Bank CCAP for 2026-2030 represents an opportunity for the World Bank to articulate and improve its efforts on climate and biodiversity.

The World Bank Group has recently announced that it is developing a new iteration of its Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) covering the period of 2026-2030. The new CCAP represents a critical opportunity for the Bank to refine and strengthen its commitment to better use its resources to address the climate crisis. This includes engaging more meaningfully with civil society to allow for more project accountability as well as increasing the transparency of its climate finance. It should also include concrete steps for mainstreaming biodiversity in WBG bodies, processes, and operations. If the Bank wants the updated CCAP to be effective in helping  achieve its climate goals, then it needs  the CCAP with all of its other climate commitments, including around Paris alignment. We believe that the World Bank can and must put together a climate plan that is realistic, additive, ambitious, and for which it can be held accountable for implementing.
