BIC calls upon Secretary Yellen to support green transition policies at the IMF

The Biden administration should use the US voice and vote at the IMF to lead other members towards developing and implementing a bold, inclusive, and comprehensive climate action agenda.

BIC along with 34 civil society partners and individuals sent a letter to Secretary Yellen asking the US government to use its voice and vote at the IMF to promote ending IMF loan conditionalities, surveillance recommendations, and technical assistance that support fossil fuel expansion, including that of gas. Rather the US needs to advance just, green transition policies and debt relief solutions. The letter outlines several recommendations across surveillance, capacity building, and financing activities, as well as general actions the US should take at the IMF to address climate change and become a global leader on climate action.
