What gaps are CSOs asking the World Bank to address in its Climate Change Action Plan?

BIC as part of the Big Shift Global Campaign calls upon the World Bank Group to be a climate leader and address the shortcomings of its new Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) ahead of the COP26 summit.

BIC and over 50 CSOs forming the Big Shift Global Campaign are calling upon the World Bank Group to amend the gaps in its Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) released this summer. We have identified seven shortcomings in the CCAP related to continued financing of fossil fuels, a lack of clear plans for Paris Alignment, poor sectoral integration of climate goals across the Bank’s portfolio, a lack of transparency around climate financing, and opacity regarding the inclusion of marginalized groups and gender mainstreaming in climate activities. As the world looks ahead to the COP26 summit, it is incumbent on the World Bank Group to position itself as an unequivocal climate leader and be responsive to climate science and to the millions of global citizens clamoring for more committed climate action.
