Mariel joined BIC in 2020 as the Social Inclusion Senior Program Associate. In her role, she advocates and works with International Financial Institutions to push for greater inclusion, stakeholder engagement, and access to project benefits for marginalized groups.
Mariel has a passion for improving programming while minimizing social and environmental risks throughout a project's cycle. She believes in the power of partnerships and building and maintaining partner relations. Having lived on three continents and working in finance, social impact and health, Mariel strives to create effective channels of communication between sectors in order to improve development and humanitarian programs.
Before joining BIC, Mariel worked on advancing community-led projects in the Caribbean and social inclusion programs in Asia and Latin America. She supported UNDP in enhancing its relationship with Multilateral Development Banks. She highlighted the important role of the private sector in supporting global health innovations to scale at her role at the UN Foundation. As part of the corporate social responsibility team at PVH, she analyzed current and potential social risks throughout the global supply chain, particularly migrant and child labor.
Mariel received her master's degree in public administration from New York University and holds a B.A. degree in international business from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education. She speaks Spanish, English, French and Mandarin Chinese.
